Submission isn’t always negative, and it isn’t always comfortable.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” aside, the word “submission” has a negative aura.  It connotes weakness when, to the contrary, it is spiritually brave and empowering.  It takes courage to dismiss the ego, suspend denial and be vulnerable to truth.

Begin with Thunderbolt. Kneel and sit on your heels. Press the tops of your feet into the floor.

For some, this can be brutal on the knees, so sit on a folded blanket or two (or three) to lift your seat.

As you sit, stack your heart above your hips and your head above your heart.

Ask yourself:  “How much time am I wasting with hoping?”

Ask yourself: “How do my likes, dislikes and attachments rule my life?”

Hope is banking on an uncertain future while attachment imprisons you in the past.  Our likes and dislikes trap us in endless cycles of attraction and flight. All of it drags you from now.

Can you surrender the cult of your own personality, separate from ego and be present with your authentic Self?

Personal trainer Magen Wooley hears this dream daily from new clients, and she smiles gently.

People hit the gym because they want Michelle Obama arms, Channing Tatum abs or a Jennifer Lopez butt.

“But, you can’t just order up body parts,” Wooley said.  The education process must now begin.

She says: “Listen.”

Unfortunately, rounded shoulders are fashionable.

For a moment, defy the trend.  On the inhale, lift and separate your collar bones and imagine dropping your shoulder blades into your back pockets.  Your head hovers above your heart.

This healthy posture can feel unnatural, and it’s tough to hold.

The shoulders usually round forward because the pectoral and latissimus dorsi muscles (pecs and lats) are tight while the upper back muscles including the rear deltoids, mid-trapezius and rhomboids are weak.

Hunching over computers and cellphones, driving and lugging heavy shoulder bags and backpacks are frequent culprits.

How trendy is raw veganism?

There are surveys indicating that about 5% of Americans identify as vegetarian with about half of those being vegan, people who eat no animal products whatsoever.  But it’s hard to find published studies of the numbers of health-minded — albeit picky — eaters who eschew cooking their food above 118 degrees.

Some call this living foodism.

It’s about love consciousness.  It’s about body ecology.  It’s far out.  But eating food in its most natural state is also about health for the spiritual and physical bodies.
